Winter Photo Session in the Dark

Lapland is a beautiful and unique destination, especially popular in the winter time. But one thing people sometimes forgot to consider - as we are located inside the Polar Arctic Circle, we also experience the polar night period.

The polar night is a phenomenon where the nighttime lasts for more than 24 hours that occurs in the northernmost and southernmost regions of Earth. This means that daylight time is rather short in autumn and winter months, but especially during November, December and January. We call that period "Kaamos" in Finnish, it is the time of dim blue twilight. Polar regions typically get more twilight throughout the year!

It's not at all as bad as it sounds - it is not totally dark all the time, but if you want to have your wedding, proposal or other photos taken during the daylight time, we should plan the schedule carefully.

However, dark is not always bad, because it is also possible to get some amazing photos. Wedding photos in the dark do spark off certain magic, we say! Having a photo session in the dark simply requires some extra planning and an experienced photographer with proper equipment. We know the tricks!
