WHICH KIND OF CEREMONY TO CHOOSE

Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, especially when trying to coordinate everything from the other side of the world. At Lapland Romance, we strive to take care of every detail, ensuring you have a stress-free experience for your intimate wedding or elopement. Here are a few key considerations to help you get on track from the very beginning of this process.

Official or Symbolic Ceremony?

You have the option of organising an official civil wedding ceremony, which will require some time and paperwork. Getting married in Finland is relatively straightforward, but it does take time and resources. We will guide you through the process and assist you in creating a timeline to get your documents in order. Two adult witnesses are required to attend the civil ceremony. If you don’t have anyone with you, our staff is more than happy to step in as witnesses.

Alternatively, you can register your official marriage in your home country and celebrate a symbolic wedding in Lapland. While a symbolic ceremony doesn’t provide official proof of marriage, it allows you to focus entirely on enjoying your special day without the paperwork.

Indoor or Outdoor?

Many couples dream of tying the knot in the heart of nature, and we are thrilled to help make that dream a reality. There are several stunning locations where you can exchange vows, whether you prefer the pristine outdoors or a cozy indoor setting. If you’re celebrating with just the two of you or a small group of family and friends, an outdoor ceremony can make your day even more memorable. Just keep your guests' comfort in mind—having a warm indoor space nearby is always a good idea for warming up those frozen fingers!

Daylight or Twilight?

Timing is crucial, particularly due to the short daylight hours from November to January. Consider your wedding photos: do you envision a white, fluffy winter wonderland or moody candlelight vibes in the dark?

According to local magistrate rules, civil ceremonies on weekdays can only take place outside regular working hours—starting from 16:30, when it is often already dark. On weekends, you have more flexibility, as ceremonies can take place earlier in the day. If you’re hoping for daylight photos during the week, a symbolic ceremony may be a better fit.

Personalizing Your Ceremony

Civil ceremonies are relatively brief, so we encourage you to personalize yours by including your own vows. The ceremony will be conducted in English, but you’re welcome to read your vows in your native language. If your guests would like to contribute by reading a poem or giving a speech, it adds a special touch to the event. You can also personalize the ceremony by choosing your favorite music for the beginning and conclusion.
